He captained many missions in a squadron which flew more sorties than any other Allied heavy bomber squadron, was Mentioned in Despatches and awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, and was recorded by the Imperial War Museum for his account of the major raid of 7 April 1941 on the German city of Kiel. Three of his relatives have graves in St Peter’s Burial Ground in Budleigh, including his father.
