MPs pro-environment and anti-inappropriate development
MPs involved with petitions to protest against
development of greenbelt land or housing without appropriate infrastructure.
Clive Betts (Labour Sheffield South East) underlined
his opposition to proposals to use land in Eckington Way, near Crystal Peaks,
for a travelling showpeople site and industrial uses. ‘I am calling on Sheffield City
Council to reject this plan and recognise the profound impact this
will have on communities in Sheffield South East, not just around Eckington Way
but also with the unfair release of Green Belt land.’
Saqib Bhatti (Conservative, Meriden and Solihull East): Associated
with a petition concerning the "grey belt" definition in the National
Planning Policy Framework, advocating for better protection of Green Belt land.

which threaten rural areas and green belt-adjacent land in her constituency.
Stuart Andrew (Conservative, Daventry) has a track
record of campaigning against building on green belt land within his
constituency, advocating for "Save Our Greenbelt" initiatives. He
previously opposed large-scale housing developments proposed by Leeds City
Victoria Collins (Liberal Democrat, Harpenden and
Berkhamsted). ‘Local Conservatives
failed to get a local plan in St Albans leaving us open to speculative
development without building the homes and infrastructure we need. As
regards Labour’s planning proposals, I highlighted the impact of their approach
on areas such as ours with green belt. I urged them to ensure policies are
community-first with the right protections for nature. This includes building
infrastructure first, empowering local authorities to build the truly
affordable homes we need and to strengthen protection and enhancement of nature
and biodiversity.’
Sir Ed Davey (LibDem, Kingston and Surbiton) Government housing targets are
"forcing councils" in Surrey to allocate green belt land for
development, according to the Liberal Democrat leader. Sir Ed Davey, who is the MP for Kingston and
Surbiton, which shares a border with Surrey, said the targets were
"eye-watering".

area best, and should have a say’ (Richard
Foord MP, Facebook page, 5 March 2026)
Helen Grant (Conservative,
Maidstone & Malling ) I have sent the following statement to the
committee members, outlining my strong opposition to the Bradbourne planning
application between Hermitage Lane and Kiln Barn Road.
Throughout my time as a Member of Parliament,
overdevelopment has been a persistent concern raised by constituents, and I
have fought hard to protect our precious green spaces from inappropriate
housing developments. While I have no statutory authority over individual
planning applications, I will always make representations on behalf of my
constituents on controversial housebuilding proposals such as this. (4 March
2026)

government’s housing minister to attend a protest against green belt homes this
weekend.

planning in Buckinghamshire.

Pritchard MP with residents protesting about plans to build on greenfield sites
at Breton Park in Muxton, Telford.
David Reed (Exmouth & Exeter East) ‘I will not allow poor planning and
headline-grabbing targets to destroy what makes our area so special. We are
temporary custodians of this land, and I want it to be protected and enjoyed by
future generations. I will continue to fight and push back whenever I see a
lack of joined-up thinking or when housing developments are planned without the
necessary infrastructure to support them.’ 26 March 2025 https://www.davidreed.uk/news/house-building-and-local-plan

a, parliamentary petition signed by over 5,900 people to protect the green belt
