Edith Ellen OSSORIO (1875-1970) née RamageChild model for the painting ‘Cherry Ripe’ (1879), seen above.  

* The building ‘Rock Mansions’, where she settled in the 1960s, is opposite ‘The Octagon’, which is where Sir John Everett Millais Bt (1829-96) worked on ‘The Boyhood of Raleigh’ in 1870. Did she choose Budleigh to settle because of the connection, Millais having painted 'Cherry Ripe' in 1879?

* Her grave is in St Peter’s Burial Ground, Moor Lane.
