Cliff death tragedy at Budleigh

Flowers lie at the spot on the South West coast path near where police and coastguard helicopters were called on Saturday 30 May to recover a man’s body from cliffs near the East Devon Golf Club.

An inquest is to be held to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of Simon Batten, 38, a married man with children from nearby Exmouth.

Mr Batten’s body was spotted by a walker who immediately contacted police.
The 400-foot high cliffs on this stretch of the coast near the Golf Club are notoriously unstable.

Walkers are warned not to stray from the coast path.
