Shandford Garden Fete

Organisers of Shandford’s Garden Fete are hoping that the summer will resume in time for the event on Saturday 15 August.

Books, bric-a-brac, cakes, jewellery and toys are just some of the items which will be on display. There will be a nearly new stall and produce of various kinds, as well as a raffle and refreshments.

Shandford, on Station Road, provides residential care for 25 residents but is not a nursing home. It has been run by a non-profit making charity since its opening in 1958 “for the peace and comforting of old friends in Budleigh Salterton and neighbourhood.”

The original building was designed by the well-known local architect William Hatchard Smith, noted for many fine properties in the town, including Watch Hill, where he lived. After its purchase, Shandford was developed with money raised locally for the elderly from Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding villages. It is still very well supported by the local community, with Budleigh Salterton Lions Club http://www.budleighlions.org/ having a particularly strong link.

All proceeds from the event on 15 August will go to Shandford Residents’ Comfort Fund.

The fete begins at 2.30 pm, at 31 Station Road, Budleigh Salterton.
